The research specialisation started in 1996 with a PhD studentship award and placement awards in national and international centres; between 2002-2004 with a postdoctoral fellowship at Archaeological Institute of Czech Sciences Academy; and from 2004 to 2006 with a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Basque Country. I have also held positions in the Administration on Heritage management: 1999-2001 in the National Centre of Rock art of the Ministry of Culture (Foz Côa, Portugal), and 2006-2010 in the Centre of Prehistoric Caves of Cantabria (Government of Cantabria, Spain). I have held research and teaching positions: 2010-2016 at University of the Basque Country, 2017-2019 at Isabel I University, and 2019-currently Complutense University of Madrid.

The research has been focused on prehistoric rock art (mainly Palaeolithic, but also post-Palaeolithic times). The main lines are:
•    Characterization of graphic variability and its importance for the spatial, social and territorial reconstruction of Palaeolithic human groups.
•    Understanding of Prehistoric art as an evidence for the reconstruction of human conduct from an anthropological point of view.
•    Chronometric studies in prehistoric rock art.
•    Origin of symbolic behaviour.
•    Conservation and management of Cultural Heritage.

I was designated co-director, by the Spanish Education, Culture and Sport Ministry, of one of the working groups on the Altamira cave. He has also been commissioned on similar conservation studies by the Cantabria and Castilla-La Mancha governments. Moreover, he has participated as a consultant and commissary in temporal exhibitions (funded by Atapuerca Foundation, Government of Cantabria and Foundation Albert I of Monaco/Institut de Paleontologie Humaine of Paris) and other technical consultancy jobs.
