PhD in History (2010), Department of Geography, Prehistory and Archaeology, University of the Basque Country (UPV-EHU). Basque Government Postdoctoral fellow in geoarchaeology (2011-2012), Biological and Environmental Sciences, University of Stirling (UK). Basque Government Postdoctoral fellow in geoarchaeology (2013), Department of Geography, Prehistory and Archaeology (UPV-EHU).

Since 2013 I have worked as a geoarchaeologist and postdoctoral collaborator with the IT-632-13 High Yield Research Group of the Basque Government based at the Department of Geography, Prehistory and Archaeology of the University of the Basque Country (UPV-EHU).

My research involves the study of archaeological sediments through the application high-resolution geoarchaeological analyses. I use micromorphology coupled with elemental mapping and geochemistry, macroscopic sedimentary analysis, production of reference materials and experimentation. The goal of my work is to provide direct evidence of use of the space, settlement patterns and palaeoenvironments of prehistoric groups for the reconstruction of human behaviour and responses to climatic fluctuations during the Late Pleistocene- Holocene.

Since March 2017 I am based at the IPHES where I am part of the multidisciplinary research unit COMPATHEVOL (Complex Paths on Human Evolution) and the Project PALEODEM: Late Glacial and Postglacial Population History and Cultural Transmission in Iberia (c.15,000-8,000cal BP). Within this project my investigations concern the analysis of prehistoric hearths from open-air Mesolithic sites in SE Iberia using microscopic and ultramicroscopic geoarchaeological tools while also participating in the fieldwork data collection of the sites under study. In addition, I am in charge of creating a reference collection of experimental combustion structures to support archaeological interpretations.

Main research focus

- The role of early pastoral practices in the introduction and transition to farming societies.
- Settlement patterns and palaeoenvironments during the Middle to Upper Palaeolithic transition.
- Combustion residues.
- Formation processes and high resolution geoarchaeology.
