Laura Martín-Francés is a María de Maeztu postdoctoral fellow, researcher of the Paleoanthropology Research Unit at IPHES, and member of the Atapuerca Research Team.

I have research interests in evolutionary biology (dental anthropology) and palaeopathology. During my postdoctoral period, I have built an expertise in virtual DA (VDA), geometric morphometrics, mCT-scanning and medical imagining. I investigate the source and pattern of settlement of the Pleistocene European hominins through the morphometric characterization of the dental endostructure of several hominins, including Atapuerca collections.

My postdoctoral experience includes a two-year Initiative d’Excellence (IdEx) grant at PACEA, University of Bordeaux, to investigate the morphometric dental traits of several European Middle Pleistocene populations.

In the coming years, I will develop a new research line in dental biomechanics that aims to investigate how our ancestors adapted to dietary repertories from biomechanical and ecological perspectives.
