Collections Service

The Collections Service aims to correctly preserve the archaeological and palaeontological materials temporarily stored at the centre until they return to the institution to which they belong.

The collections stored at the IPHES premises primarily come from excavations managed by the Institute, but the service also manages experimental and reference collections (biological and lithic) generated by researchers and technicians from the Institute and permanently stored with the Collections Service.

The facilities are divided into three different spaces fitted with a codified system of shelves and boxes: 240 m2 devoted to the storage of fossil materials and equipped with all the tools needed to safely handle and consult the materials; 56 m2 reserved for the biological reference collection and other fossil materials; and a 28 m2 space used for short-term storage.
